How could it not ? With ( GM & Pano ) helping me. GM has been guiding me on the enclosure and Pano with the measuring and Crossovers. :2thumbsup:
Couldn't have done it without them !!! No way No how ! Well I'm sure I could have built something, but having them sound great is another story.:D
I picked up some good quality cable for the enclosures and crossovers. It is a 14/4 awg OFC 105 strand, the strands are very fine like strands of hair.Very good quality IMHO !!
From diyhometheatersupply on eBay. I have No Affiliation !!! He was just a good seller IMO.

Agreed, this is essentially what is used to wire industrial electrical controls (or at least was during my career) where high flexibility is required, yet has a very low voltage loss at Dc. Still, nothing beats a single conductor, so magnet winding wire is what I usually recommend.

Looks nice. I like the flexy stuff for some reason. Like the marine or boat wire that is made to go thru tight turns and spaces. Very flexible.
I mentioned this before in a thread that Steve Schell posted in.I posed this very question to my shop teacher (Electrical Construction). What carries the current better solid or stranded wire ? Without hesitation he said stranded.I asked why and his response was that the Electrons will flow on the outer edge of the wire right under the insulation.Do not know what he really meant by that but that was in the early 80's things/reasoning could have changed since then, but he really knew his stuff my classmates and I always tried to stump him with questions "Nothing Happening" he always knew the answers to every question. He was also a consultant to the local IBEW 2629 union.A bunch of my friends belong to the union and knew him.He has retired now though back in the mid 90's IIRC.When he was teaching he was in the field for 50 years, also a lineman for 25 of those 50.Very smart guy, kind of reminds me of you !! ;) :D :2thumbsup:
Hi AB,
You are really taking good care to see that these speakers get the best of everything. I don't see you compromising anywhere. I wish you all the best (also suits your name Altec Best) in your venture. I am sure it will come out good and also will sound great.:2thumbsup:
Now coming to what your shop-teacher had said...I don't think GM was unaware of it. He is very thourough. Actually this electron-on-the-surface-thing is as old as radio, aka RF aka Litz-wire etc....electrons will come out to the surface only when excited enough, and this can be due to very high voltage or very high frequency or very high heat etc. Our point of interst here is audio, and here the difference between solid & strands is not that huge.
The wires that you have got seem to be giving solid like behaviour.
Aditya
Thanks !!!
I was just parlaying the explanation given to me almost 30 years ago now. Also said I didn't much understand it. I prefer High strand count wire though for it's great flexibility.Don't want to turn this thread into a wire war thread.;)
Thanks again for the compliment !! :2thumbsup:
:rotfl:
Yes yes...I have understood it now.
Thanks
Aditya
Well I finally got my woofers back from Bill after 2 months.I shipped them December 28 and just received them yesterday March 1 :(. But he assured me that the T/S parameters are all identical as measured by Steve Upchurch !:D I guess it's really worth the wait can't wait to get going again on this !
OK the problem with my woofers on 1 pair was that they were stored face down for a long period of time.Bill said that coils weren't even close to being in the gap.One woof also had a scratched voice coil.My suggestion is to you guys if you have woofers in storage face down flip them every 6 months or rotate them every 3 months to avoid damage to the spiders ! I'm mounting them in my 612's just to give them a whirl till i Finish my Cabs.My garage/shop is unheated so now that spring is getting closer I plan to be out there quite a bit to get these done. :2thumbsup:
Addendum: Calling Dr.Pano Dr.GM Dr.Pano Oh wait a minute. I think that was supposed to be Dr.Howard Dr.Fine Dr.Howard. :D
BTW Thanks Bill they Look and sound Fabulous ! You just given me Brand new pairs of 416's :thankU: :2thumbsup:
